Windows does not recognise Splash.hta

OK, so I was installing SQL Server 2005 on a new virtual machine the other day and I had the ISO image all ready to go. I mounted it within the virtual image and bang!

Microsoft does not recognise file Splash.hta.

Dang. I dont want a splash screen but I need to install this. I cant get around it so why doesn't Microsoft make it compatible. Anyway, after some musing, I turned to my old friend Google who obliged me with the answer....

1) Click 'choose an application to associate this file with'

2) Navigate to windows\system32

3) Find file called : mshta.exe

4) Associate all files of type .hta with mshta.exe.

 

Voila!
